"Motivate & Mentor" Parent Education Seminar
A child's musical education through SMPLA is founded on the "Suzuki Triangle" - musical participation involving the Child, Parent, and Teacher. While the teacher works with the child once a week in a private lesson, the parent works with the child on a daily basis, helping the child master what was taught by the teacher. Therefore, parental involvement is central and crucial to a Suzuki student's musical training. A parent does not need to be a trained musician in order to become an effective "home teacher."

The "Motivate and Mentor" Parent Education Seminar will take place over Zoom on four Mondays, 8:00 pm– 9:15 p.m. Dates for the 2026 - 2027 season will be in the Winter/Spring semester and are still to be determined.
All parents who have not taken this course in the past are strongly encouraged to attend, and those who want a refresher course are welcome to join in again. The Seminar is taught by Robin Johnson, who is Co-Director of SMPLA. She is also an independent violin instructor, and past Suzuki parent. Robin has a unique perspective to share with new Suzuki families, as well as families who need a refresher on these important concepts. There is a $65 participation and materials fee, which includes the book Nurtured by Love, the Parent Education Manual, and other materials. |

The Mother-Tongue Method
The Suzuki Method™, also known as the "mother tongue" method, is based on the belief that, just as almost all children can learn to speak, all children can learn music, and can develop their talent to a high degree, depending upon their environment.
Children growing up in a musical environment, with loving parental guidance and skilled teachers, can become fine musicians and, of equal importance, can become fine human beings. Indeed, the Suzuki Method™ seeks to develop "the whole child" through the study of a musical instrument. We believe that music enhances a child's brain development, motor skills, self-confidence, and personal character.
