Van Nuys Sherman Oaks Park, WEST END (go to 5021 Tilden Ave. Sherman Oaks, to park) Get in the mood for another terrific musical year with SMPLA at our Fall Opening Social and "Music Jam" Play-in! Go to 5021 Tilden Ave, Sherman Oaks, where there's a small parking lot beside a grassy area. Bring your own picnic dinner and a treat to share, and we'll have music games, "jamming" on fiddle tunes, world music, and Suzuki pieces. Bring your duet books and wear your SMPLA t-shirts! SMPLA Co-Directors and teachers will host an orientation over Zoom to provide free information about our program. If you know families with children playing violin or guitar in the Suzuki method, these parents are welcome. Also if you are a parent "shopping around" for where to begin with music lessons, this will be an informative way to start your search. Bring your questions, and we'll describe how SMPLA works with all children for a well rounded music education.
Please RSVP to Robin Johnson [email protected] to reserve your spot and receive the Zoom invitation. Feel free to bring your spouse or a friend (children are hopefully already in bed ;-) Thursday, September 2, 2021, 7:30-9pm at private home in Encino. Hopefully, staying home will help “flatten the curve” and we can all stay out of the path of the Corona Virus.
Please take this time to enjoy practicing at home, and make small and great advances in your Suzuki repertoire! Consider staging a concert for your family members at home playing through the repertoire you already know! What a great way to review. Wishing everyone a healthy and restful couple of weeks. A child's musical education through SMPLA is founded on the "Suzuki Triangle" - musical participation involving the Child, Parent, and Teacher. While the teacher works with the child once a week in a private lesson, the parent works with the child on a daily basis, helping the child master what was taught by the teacher. Therefore, parental involvement is central and crucial to a Suzuki student's musical training. A parent does not need to be a trained musician in order to become an effective "home teacher."
